Press Release

Date: Nov. 6, 2016
Location: Raleigh, NC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Governor Pat McCrory announced today that Colonial Pipeline has notified him that the fuel pipeline damaged last week in Shelby, Alabama has been repaired, and was restarted early this morning. The pipeline is a major distribution source of gasoline to North Carolina.

"I am grateful for the quick response of Colonial Pipeline to restore the operation of this gasoline pipeline," said Governor McCrory. "This means that North Carolina, as well as our neighboring states, have averted a serious situation regarding our gas supply. As a result, effective Wednesday I am rescinding my order suspending non-essential travel by state employees."

The pipeline was damaged Monday and the resulting fire meant distribution of gasoline to several southeastern states was suspended until the repair could be completed. As a result, Governor McCrory waived certain state requirements on trucking and directed the Department of Environmental Quality to work with the Department of Agriculture to use different gasoline formulas to increase access to supplies from northern states.
